In plain words

O my mind, listen to the Guru's teaching, and you come into a treasure of goodness.

The Giver of peace settles into your mind, and ego and pride quietly step aside.

Nanak says: by grace, that sweet treasure of goodness is yours.

Listen deeply enough and the Giver of peace quietly makes a home in you.
The deeper layer

A short Guru Amar Das shalok addressed ay man -- "O mind." Sikh sun is Suniai, deep listening, the receptive stillness that lets truth come through rather than filtering it. The reward is gunee nidhaan (a treasure-store of virtue) and the sukh-daata (Giver of peace) taking up residence. Ego and pride are not battled but simply jaa-ay -- they leave, as they always do when something better moves in. And it is nadree paa-ee-ai -- received by grace, never bought.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you listen -- not just wait to talk, but take something in?
