Verse 2 of 5

Everywhere I Go, There

ਐਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਿਰਲੋ ਈ ਪਾਏ ॥
aiso gi-aan birlo ee paa-ay.
How rare is that one who is blessed with such spiritual wisdom.
ਜਤ ਜਤ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jat jat jaa-ee-ai tat daristaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Wherever I go, there I see Him. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Rare is the one who is given wisdom like this.

Wherever I go, there I see the One.

Rare is the eye that sees the One everywhere — but once it opens, nowhere is empty of it.
The deeper layer

Seeing the One everywhere is rare, and it comes as a gift.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad, the idea everything else circles around.

Aiso gi-aan birlo ee paa-ay means few people receive this kind of wisdom. Gi-aan means deep knowing. It is not a prize you win by being clever. It comes as a gift, by grace.

Jat jat jaa-ee-ai tat daristaa-ay means wherever I go, there I see the One. Think of a hidden-picture puzzle. Once you spot the shape, you can never un-see it. The rest of this shabad shows that same seeing, one angle at a time.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you could not un-see once someone finally showed it to you?
