In plain words

The One is the joining, and the One is the way to it.

Nanak says: my Lord is forever free — never tangled, never trapped, always at ease.

The One is both the road and the walking — and is itself forever free.
The deeper layer

The One is both the goal and the road to it, and is always free.

Aapeh jog aap hee jugtaa means the One is the jog, the joining with the Divine, and the One is also the jugtaa, the way to get there. Goal and method are not two separate things. Think of learning to swim. The water you want to reach is the same water that holds you up while you learn.

Naanak kay prabh sad hee muktaa means Nanak's Lord is forever free. Muktaa means free, never caught or tied up. The One does not have to earn freedom. The One simply is freedom.

That calm, untangled ease is what the word sahaj points to. It means a natural, easy peace.

A Question to Sit With

What would it feel like to be completely at ease, with nothing tangling you up?
