Servant Nanak is the Lord's slave; preserve his honor, O Lord, Destroyer of ego. ||4||1||31||

In plain words

Those who serve the perfect Guru stand steady at the One's door, on ground that does not wash away.

Nanak says: I am the One's servant; keep my honor safe, O One who takes the ego away.

Everything else washes away; a heart rooted in what is real is the one thing that stays.
The deeper layer

One thing does not wash away: a life of serving the Guru.

Jin pooraa satgur sayvi-aa say asthir har du-aar — those who serve the Perfect True Guru stay steady at the One's door. After all the sandcastles in this shabad, here is solid rock to stand on.

Then Guru Arjan, who signs his songs as Nanak, prays: raakh paij muraar — keep my honor safe. Muraar here means the One who destroys ego. Ego is the loud "me first" voice inside. It is not an enemy to fight with fists. It is more like a sickness that heals, or a heavy bag you learn to set down.

A Question to Sit With

In a world where things change, what feels solid enough to stand on?
