Verse 4 of 5

The Fear Falls Away

ਭੈ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਕ ਕੇ ਪਾਏ ਸੁਖ ਥਾਨ ॥
bhai binsay tihu lok kay paa-ay sukh thaan.
The fear of the three worlds is dispelled, and I have found my place of rest and peace.
ਦਇਆ ਕਰੀ ਸਮਰਥ ਗੁਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੩॥
da-i-aa karee samrath gur basi-aa man naam. ||3||
The all-powerful Guru has taken pity upon me, and the Naam has come to dwell in my mind. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The fears that used to follow me everywhere have faded, and I have found a place inside me that rests.

The all-powerful Guru showed me kindness, and the Naam came to live in my mind.

When something steady lives in you, fear has less room.
The deeper layer

Fear falls away, and a resting place is found.

Bhai binsay tihu lok kay — the fear of the three worlds is gone. Tihu lok, the three worlds, is a way of saying everywhere. Paa-ay sukh thaan — I found a place of peace.

Da-i-aa karee samrath gur basi-aa man naam — the all-powerful Guru showed kindness, and the Name came to live in my mind. Think of a child after a bad dream, curled up safe and falling asleep again.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your mind feel like it has a place to rest?
