Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My breath, my body, my life, all of it is Yours. And You are so dear to me.

Nanak, the poet, says this to You, the true Cherisher who holds everything.

Everything you are is a gift, and love gives it gladly back.
The deeper layer

Everything I am is Yours, and I give it back with love.

Saas maas sabh jee-o tumaaraa — my breath, my body, and my soul are all Yours. Too mai kharaa pi-aaraa — and You are so dear to me.

This giving is warm, not gloomy. Everything we have is already the One's gift. So giving it back is just love answering love, like a child handing a parent a drawing made with the crayons the parent bought.

Parvadgaar is a word from Persian. It means the Cherisher, the One who feeds and cares for everyone. Nanak moves easily between languages, picking whatever word says it best.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing about your own body you are thankful for?
