O Lord Master, I am a sacrifice to Your Name, moment by moment, bit by bit. ||1||Pause||4||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my One, for the sake of Your Name I give myself away, moment by moment, piece by piece. My whole self is Yours.

A whole life can be given the way a heartbeat is given: one moment at a time.
The deeper layer

The whole song comes down to one line: everything I am, I give for the Name.

This is the last Rahao, the last "pause" line, of the first shabad. The song ends here after four verses. Saahib tayray naam vitahu — Master, for Your Name I give myself.

The words bind bind chukh chukh, moment by moment, bit by bit, come back from the verse before. Said again, they sound like a heartbeat slowing down. The song winds down into stillness, the way a room goes quiet after the last note.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you do a little bit of, over and over, until it adds up?
