I Ask For No Other

ਸੇਵੀ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਚੰਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
sayvee saahib aapnaa avar na jaachaN-o ko-ay.
I serve my Lord and Master; I ask for no other.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਬਿੰਦ ਬਿੰਦ ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
naanak taa kaa daas hai bind bind chukh chukh ho-ay. ||4||
Nanak is His slave; moment by moment, bit by bit, he is a sacrifice to Him. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I keep close to my own One and ask for nothing else.

Nanak says: I am the One's servant. Moment by moment, piece by piece, my whole self belongs to the One.

When one love is enough, you stop shopping for others.
The deeper layer

When one love is enough, the heart stops asking everyone else.

Sayvee saahib aapnaa avar na jaachaN-o ko-ay — I serve my own Master, and I ask no one else. In the closing line Nanak calls himself daas, a servant. He gives himself bind bind chukh chukh, moment by moment, bit by bit.

This is not about wiping yourself out. It is about belonging. Picture a jar filled one coin at a time. Each passing moment is quietly given to the One, and together they add up to a whole life.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you feel completely belongs with you?
