Sikhism·Raag Dhanaasaree·Shabad 10
Verse 3 of 4

Forever Glad, Never Cast Down

jin har ras chaakhi-aa so har jan log.
One who tastes the sublime essence of the Lord is the Lord's humble servant.
tis sadaa harakh naahee kaday sog.
He is forever happy; he is never sad.
aap mukat avraa mukat karaavai.
He himself is liberated, and he liberates others as well.
har naam japai har tay sukh paavai. ||3||
He chants the Lord's Name, and through the Lord, he finds peace. ||3||

In plain words

Whoever has tasted the One's sweetness becomes the One's very own.

They are always glad, never sunk in sorrow. They are free, and they help free others too. Keeping the Name, they find peace through the One.

Joy from the One stays steady inside and spills over to others.
The deeper layer

Joy from the One lasts, and it spreads.

Jin har ras chaakhi-aa so har jan log — whoever tastes the One's sweetness becomes har jan, the One's own person. Tis sadaa harakh naahee kaday sog — such a person is always glad, never sunk in sorrow. This is a steadiness inside that does not depend on what happens outside.

And the freedom overflows. Aap mukat avraa mukat karaavai — freed themselves, they help free others. It is like one candle lighting another without losing any of its own flame.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel happy, how does it change the way you treat people?
