In plain words

I love my family, and there is real joy in a comfortable life. Those are gifts.

But if I ask them to be the whole source of my peace, they cannot carry that weight. Deep, steady peace has to come from somewhere that does not change.

The people and comforts we love are gifts, not the ground of our peace.
The deeper layer

The people and comforts we love are gifts, but they cannot be the ground of our peace.

Putar kaltar lachhmee maa-i-aa: children, spouse, wealth and maa-i-aa, the pull of the world. In tay kaho kavnai sukh paa-i-aa: tell me, who has found lasting sukh, peace, from these alone? The question already holds its answer: no one.

This is not a rejection of family. It shows where deep peace really comes from. A house needs a strong foundation. You can love the furniture, but you cannot build the house on it. Asking the people we love to be our whole source of peace puts a weight on love it was never meant to carry.

A Question to Sit With

What's something you love that isn't fair to ask to make you happy all by itself?
