Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One, beautiful beyond describing, has carried me safely across the wide and stormy sea of life. I was never going to swim it alone, and I didn't have to.

So here is what I have learned, and I pass it on. Keep the One close. Remember the Source of endless joy, and let yourself be carried too.

You were never meant to cross the hard waters alone.
The deeper layer

The One carries us safely across life's stormy sea, so Sain says: remember the One.

Madan moorat bhai taar gobinday — the One of wondrous beauty has carried me across the frightening water. The scary ocean is named only to show that it has already been crossed. The weight falls on rescue and joy, not on fear. Think of watching a storm from a warm, dry house.

Sain ends by turning to us: bhaj parmaananday — keep close the One who is the highest joy.

A Question to Sit With

Who or what has helped carry you through something you could not have crossed by yourself?
