To chant the chant of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, is the longing I long for; have Mercy upon me, O Lord of the world-forest.

O Lord, unite servant Nanak with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; make me the dust of the feet of the Holy. ||4||4||

In plain words

To keep the One in mind is the longing I most long for.

Bring me into the Sangat — I would gladly be the dust of their path.

The deepest wish can simply be a place in the Sangat and a heart full of the One.
The deeper layer

The deepest wish is simply to want the One, and to be in the Sangat.

Har har japan jap loch lochaanee — to remember the One is the longing I long for. The doubled longing comes back here: wanting to want the One.

Then comes a request: sangat saaDh har maylhu, bring me into the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Pag raalee means the dust of their feet. It is a picture of humility, like being happy just to sit at the back of a room full of wise people.

Belonging and humility are the two steady notes of this raag.

A Question to Sit With

If you could spend more time around any kind of person, who would you choose?
