The bumble bee, totally in love with the lotus flower, is lost in it; it cannot find the way to escape from it. ||1||

In plain words

See how the fish gives its whole heart to the water, unable to bear being apart from it.

See how the bee gives its whole heart to the lotus, folding itself so deep inside the flower that it forgets the way back out.

A whole-hearted love is beautiful — the question is where you give it.
The deeper layer

Two creatures show us what it looks like to love with your whole heart.

The fish, meenaa, loves the water so much it cannot live without it. The bumblebee, bhavraa, loves the lotus flower so much it gets lost inside and cannot find the way out. Gurbani, the Guru's Word, often uses these two pictures. They show total love. They also show the danger of pouring a whole heart into something that passes.

Think of a kid who loves a game so much they forget dinner, homework, everyone. The love is real. The question is where it is pointed.

The shabad holds these creatures up gently. Their love is real and beautiful. The lines that come next will ask where a love that deep truly belongs.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you love so much you almost forget everything else around it?
