Protection for the Humble Heart

jan kaa aap sahaa-ee ho-aa nindak bhaagay haar.
He Himself is the help and support of His humble servants; He defeats the slanderers, and chases them away.
Wandering around aimlessly, they die out there; they never return to their homes again. ||1||

In plain words

The One is the helper and the strength of the humble.

A heart set on tearing others down only loses its own way. It wanders restlessly and never quite finds its way home.

A heart that lives to tear others down loses its own way home.
The deeper layer

The One stands by the humble, and tearing others down leads nowhere.

Jan kaa aap sahaa-ee ho-aa — the One became the helper of the humble. Jan means a humble servant, and sahaa-ee means helper.

The verse then paints a stark picture of people who speak ill of others. They wander and wander, and never come home. The inner truth is this. A life spent tearing others down loses its own way. It stays restless, like someone with no home inside. The kind heart, meanwhile, is kept safe. Think of a map app. Keep taking the wrong turns, and you drift farther and farther from home. The teaching is about where each road leads. It is not about anyone's downfall.

A Question to Sit With

How does holding onto anger at someone change the way you feel inside?
