Nanak has become fearless, and he enjoys eternal peace, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||17||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One who is real became my keeper, and pulled me close in a warm embrace.

Now I am free of fear — a steady peace stays with me as I sing the wonders of the One.

Being held close by the One turns fear into peace.
The deeper layer

Being held close is what makes us brave.

Raakh lee-ay kanth laa-ay — the One held me close, right against the heart. Nirbha-o bha-ay — I became fearless. Sadaa sukh maanay — I live in a peace that lasts.

Think of a small child in a thunderstorm. In a parent's arms, the thunder is still loud, but the child is no longer afraid. Courage here comes from being close to the One, not from standing far off and alone.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like in your body when someone you trust wraps you in a hug?
