A Strength That Never Loses

ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਓਟ ਸਮਾਰੈ ॥
jay ko-oo apunee ot samaarai.
When one considers the Lord to be his only support,
jaisaa bit taisaa ho-ay vartai apunaa bal nahee haarai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
then the Lord uses His power to help him; this power cannot be defeated. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Make the One your one and only support.

Then a strength moves through your life that never gets beaten. It cannot lose.

Lean fully on the One and you borrow a strength that cannot be defeated.
The deeper layer

When the One is our support, a strength arrives that never loses.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Jay ko-oo apunee ot samaarai — when someone makes the One their support. Ot means support, something to lean on. Apunaa bal nahee haarai — then the One's own power, bal, helps them, and that power never loses.

This is not praise of your own strength. It is the strength that arrives once you stop trying to carry everything alone. Think of carrying heavy grocery bags by yourself. Then someone takes one handle, and suddenly the load is light.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something you are trying to carry entirely by yourself? What would it feel like to set part of it down?
