In plain words

The perfect Guru has given me a gift. I was given the Naam to sing, and in singing it, I was set free.

The One made me the One's own, and kept my honor safe. Holding close to that gentle presence, I've found peace that stays with me morning and night.

Being claimed as the One's own is where peace day and night begins.
The deeper layer

The best gift the Guru gives is a song, and with it comes belonging and peace.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It names the daat, the gift. The gift is keertan, singing the One's praise. Through that singing, bha-ee hamaaree gaat — I was set free.

Next, angeekaar kee-o: the One made me Their own. It is like being picked for a team and hearing, "You're with us now." Then paat raakhee — the One kept my honor safe.

So two things arrive together. You belong, and you feel at peace, day and night.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt you belonged somewhere? How did that steady you?
