The sound current of the Shabad is the sounding of the temple drums. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

What a worship this is! O You who melt away all fear, this is Your worship.

The Word hums on its own, with no one striking it, and that sound is the great temple drum.

The deepest worship has a music of its own that no one has to play.
The deeper layer

The whole universe is singing a song of worship, and it has its own music.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It is the heart-cry of the Aartee. Kaisee aartee ho-ay — what a worship this is! It is sung to bhav khandnaa, the One who breaks apart the ocean of fear.

And the music? It is the anhataa sabad, the unstruck sound. That is music that plays without anyone striking a drum or plucking a string. It is heard as the bhayree, the big temple drum. Think of the quiet hum you feel on a still night, as if the world itself were singing. Real worship has its own soundless music.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt a kind of quiet that seemed almost like music?
