I would hesitate to beg from other people. Remembering God in meditation, liberation is obtained. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I ask the One for everything I need.

Begging from people only wears me out. Remembering the One, I am set free.

Bring your deepest needs to the Source, not to a hundred smaller doors.
The deeper layer

Bring your deepest needs to the One, because that is where they are met.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It compares two ways of asking.

The first is maanukh ka-o jaachat saram. Always asking people for things brings strain. You feel tired and small, and it never quite fills you up.

The second is parabh kai simran mokh. Remembering the One brings mokh, freedom.

This does not mean people are useless helpers. Friends, parents, and teachers help us every day. But the deepest need, the one underneath all the others, is met only at the Source. It is like filling a glass at the spring itself instead of from a leaky bucket.

A Question to Sit With

When you need something that matters, where do you turn first?
