Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Let me hold the One through childhood and youth, and through my middle years and my oldest ones too — every season of my life.

A heart colored through with love for the One is no longer caught in the tiring circle of leaving and returning.

A love that runs through every season carries you all the way home.
The deeper layer

A whole life, from young to old, can be given to the One.

Savast bivasthaa ... maDh-yant names the seasons of a life: childhood and youth, then the middle years and old age. The verse asks to serve and remember the One through every one of them. It is like a favorite song you loved as a kid and still love as a grandparent.

Baahurh janam na chhaapan — the one colored with love is not caught again in the circle of being born and dying. This is best heard as coming home to love. It is a promise of rest, not a threat.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing you hope to still love and hold onto when you are old?
