The slanderers are not allowed to stay; they are pulled out by their roots, like useless weeds. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Supreme One looks after a humble, devoted heart and keeps it whole.

Those who try to tear such a heart down find no ground to stand on; their own ill will lifts off and blows away like useless weeds.

A heart held by the One cannot be pulled down by ill will.
The deeper layer

The One looks after a humble heart completely, and unkind words cannot pull it down.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Jan kee keenee paarbarahm saar — the Supreme One takes full care of the devoted person. Paarbarahm means the One beyond everything.

The nindak are people who run others down. Tikan na paavan — they find no place to stand. Their ill will undoes itself. It is like a paper airplane thrown into a strong wind. It turns around and falls.

So the harm defeats itself. It is not a punishment aimed at anyone. The point is the care, not getting even.

A Question to Sit With

When someone tries to tear you down, what keeps you standing?
