Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I live by Your Name, and my mind is full of joy.
Your Name is true, truer than anything, and singing Your praise is beautiful.
The teaching opens up something endless. The One who made everything is the same One it all returns to; that's simply how the flow of existence works, and no one can argue with it.
The One shapes everything and watches over it, and understanding itself is a gift from the One. I can't fully reach or grasp the Great One, and still, I live by that True Name.
The Name is what I live by.
Jeevaa tayrai naa-ay — I live by Your Name. These words open the verse. They come back at the end as jeevaa sachee naa-ee, I live by the True Name. It is like the chorus of a song that brings you home.
In the middle is a line about the call that comes by Hukam. Hukam means the flow of existence. That call is the end of a life, and no one can turn it back. Yet beginnings and endings are one continuous flow. So there is nothing here to dread.
The Master is agam agochar — beyond reach and beyond what our senses can grasp.
What is something you can hold in your mind that makes you feel more alive?
