The One you long for is closer than you think, right beside you the whole time, even when you don't notice.
The choices you've already made shape the day you're in. Who can say what comes next? It's easy to get so busy you miss what's real, then feel sad about time that slipped by.
Money and being young feel solid, but they pass like the thin shade of a small plant on a hot day, here for a moment, then gone.
What lasts is turning toward the One. The moment you remember, the feeling of being far away starts to melt.
The One you are looking for is already right beside you.
Pir sang mooth-rhee-ay khabar na paa-ee-aa — the Beloved is with you, and you have not noticed. In this song Guru Nanak speaks of a soul-bride. She stands for the human heart, and the Beloved, pir, is the One. It is like searching the whole house for your glasses while they sit on your head.
The verse speaks of a bride left alone. What it describes is the ache of forgetting. That ache starts to melt the moment the heart turns back home.
Dhan joban aak kee chhaa-i-aa — money and being young are like the shade of the aak, a small desert milkweed plant. Its shade is thin. On a hot day it barely covers you before the sun moves on.
What's something good that was close to you all along, even when you didn't notice it?
