Let Go of Owning and All Is Freely Yours

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
kaho naanak jo gur bakhas milaa-i-aa.
Says Nanak, those whom the Guru forgives, meet with the Lord.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੧੦੬॥
tis kaa sabh kichh jis kaa har raa-i-aa. ||4||37||106||
Everything belongs to those who have the Lord as their King. ||4||37||106||

In plain words

The one whom the teacher's blessing draws close meets the One. And everything truly belongs to the person who has the One as their King.

Let go of trying to own things, and — with the One as your King — everything is freely yours.
The deeper layer

Let go of owning things, and with the One as your King, everything is freely yours.

The ending turns the whole shabad inside out. Tis kaa sabh kichh jis kaa har raa-i-aa — everything belongs to the one who has the One as their King.

The earlier lines let go of body, wealth, even the people we love as things to own. Now comes the surprise. When the One is yours, everything is yours. Not to grab and guard, but to enjoy freely, without fear. It is like being part of a family home. You do not own the kitchen, yet you are always welcome in it.

Gur bakhas milaa-i-aa — this comes by the teacher's blessing, as a gift, not by collecting more. Let go of owning, and you receive everything.

A Question to Sit With

How can having less to guard sometimes feel like having more?
