I have come to understand my soul, and I enjoy supreme bliss. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

I give myself completely to my true teacher. Coming to know my own deepest self, I feel a joy beyond anything else.

Giving yourself to the teaching isn't losing yourself — it's discovering who you most deeply are.
The deeper layer

Giving yourself to the teaching is how you find out who you really are.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It pairs giving yourself away with knowing yourself. Satgur apunay ka-o kurbaanee — I give myself to my True Guru. Aatam cheen param rang maanee — knowing my own soul, I enjoy the highest joy.

Here is the lovely part. Giving yourself to the teaching does not erase you. It helps you discover yourself. Aatam cheen means recognizing your true self, the one underneath the ego. Param rang means the highest color, the deepest joy. It comes from finally meeting who you most deeply are.

It is like a seed giving itself to the soil and finding out it was a tree all along. Loving the teaching and knowing yourself turn out to be the same step.

A Question to Sit With

What have you learned about yourself by giving your heart fully to something good?
