Verse 4 of 5

Love the Teaching and It Opens Your Eyes

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਲਗੋ ਮਨਿ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
gur kaa sabad lago man meethaa.
The Word of the Guru's Shabad has become sweet to my mind,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੩॥
paarbarahm taa tay mohi deethaa. ||3||
and I behold the Supreme Lord God. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The word of the teaching became sweet to my mind — and through that sweetness, I came to see the One who is beyond all limits.

When the teaching becomes something you genuinely love, it opens your eyes to the One.
The deeper layer

When you come to love the teaching, it opens your eyes to the One.

Gur kaa sabad lago man meethaa — the Guru's Word became sweet to my mind. The sabad, the Word or teaching, is not swallowed like medicine because you have to. It is tasted, like something sweet. And that sweetness is the doorway. Paarbarahm taa tay mohi deethaa — through it, I saw the Highest One, the One beyond all limits.

Seeing the One does not come from straining hard. It comes from delight. Think of a song you love. You don't have to force yourself to listen; you hear every note. When the teaching truly becomes sweet to you, it opens your eyes. Love helps you see.

A Question to Sit With

What's something that changed for you the moment you started to truly enjoy it rather than just do it?
