The teacher gives peace; the teacher is like the Creator itself. The teaching is the support of my very soul and breath.
The Guru's teaching is the ground your soul stands on.
The shabad closes by lifting the gur, the Guru and the teaching, to the highest place. Gur sukh-daata gur kartaar — the Guru gives peace; the Guru is the Creator. Jee-a paraan naanak gur aaDhaar — the Guru is the support of my soul and my breath.
In this tradition, the Guru is not a person to be worshipped. The Guru is the channel through which the One reaches us. It is like a window: you treasure it because the sunlight comes through it. To honor the teaching is to touch the Source.
So the shabad ends where it began, with the teaching held above everything. Now it shows itself as the very ground the soul stands on.
