ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਲੇ ਕਪਾਟ ॥
kaho naanak gur kholay kapaat.
Says Nanak, the Guru has opened my shutters;
ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਥਾਟ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੧੧੨॥
mukat bha-ay binsay bharam thaat. ||4||43||112||
I am liberated, and my doubts have been dispelled. ||4||43||112||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The teacher opened the shutters of my mind, and light poured in. Suddenly the tangle of doubt fell away, and I felt free -- free from the fear that had made me clutch so tightly.
When the deeper truth is seen, the grip of fear loosens on its own.
The closing couplet. Gur kholay kapaat -- the teacher opened the shutters. Mukat bhaay binsay bharam thaat -- freedom came, the whole structure of doubt collapsed. After grief and its fears, the shabad ends in release: when the deeper truth is seen, the grip of fear loosens on its own. Freedom here is understanding doing the work, not effort forcing it.
