ਭੂਮੀਆ ਭੂਮਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਲੁਝੈ ॥
bhoomee-aa bhoom oopar nit lujhai.
The landlord fights over his land each day.
ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਬੁਝੈ ॥੨॥
chhod chalai tarisnaa nahee bujhai. ||2||
He shall have to leave it in the end, and yet his desire is still not satisfied. ||2||

The landowner argues over his field day after day, sure it is his -- but one day he walks on, and the field stays. And still the hunger for more never says 'enough.' That thirst can never be filled from the outside.
A thirst for more can never be filled from the outside.
Bhoomee-aa bhoom oopar nit lujhai -- the landlord quarrels daily over his land. Trisnaa nahee bujhai -- the thirst (of craving) is never quenched. The teaching about trisnaa: desire fed from outside only grows. We keep the leaving-it-behind image plainly and without dread -- the point is the endlessness of grasping, not the fear of death.
A Question to Sit With
Is there something you were sure you 'had' to have -- and once you got it, you just wanted the next thing?
