ਪੂਰਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
pooraa maarag pooraa isnaan.
Perfect is the path; perfect is the cleansing bath.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
sabh kichh pooraa hirdai naam. ||1||
Everything is perfect, if the Naam is in the heart. ||1||

In plain words

When the Name lives in your heart, the whole path is complete. You do not need a special place to feel clean and whole -- everything is already perfect, because the deepest thing is already in place.

With the Name in your heart, everything is already whole.
The deeper layer

The keynote word is pooraa -- perfect, whole, complete, repeated all through the shabad. Pooraa maarag, pooraa isnaan -- perfect is the path, perfect the cleansing bath. Guru Arjan's radical claim is that the Name makes path and cleansing complete; commentators read that as fulfilling the external rituals of purity from within. We present this as inclusion, not attack -- the inner completeness is what makes everything whole.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel truly clean and whole inside -- more than washing your hands ever could?
