Feel Connected and Jealousy Loses Its Grip

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ga-orhee mehlaa 5.
Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
aykas si-o jaa kaa man raataa.
Those whose minds are imbued with the One Lord,
ਵਿਸਰੀ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਰਾਈ ਤਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
visree tisai paraa-ee taataa. ||1||
forget to feel jealous of others. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When your mind is soaked in love for the One, you simply forget to be jealous of anyone else.

When you feel connected to the whole, jealousy simply loses its grip.
The deeper layer

When your heart is full of the One, jealousy just slips away.

Aykas si-o jaa kaa man raataa — whose mind is dyed in the One. Raataa means dyed. Think of a white T-shirt dropped into a bucket of blue dye. It comes out blue all the way through, not just on top.

Visree tisai paraa-ee taataa — they forget to be jealous of others. They do not have to fight it. They simply forget.

Here is why. Jealousy grows when we feel cut off and feel we are missing something. When we feel connected to the whole, that empty feeling fills up. Then the jealousy quietly drops away.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel most jealous -- and does it fade when you feel content and connected?
