Sikhism·Raag Gauree·Shabad 112
Verse 2 of 5

See the One in All and No Rival Remains

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
bin gobind na deesai ko-ee.
They see none other than the Lord of the Universe.
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karan karaavan kartaa so-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Creator is the Doer, the Cause of causes. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Once you really see it, there is nothing anywhere that is not the One. The Creator is the doer behind every doing, the cause behind every cause.

When you see the One in everything, comparison loses its grip.
The deeper layer

Once you see the One in everything, there is no one left to compete with.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad, the idea the other verses circle. Bin gobind na deesai ko-ee — nothing is seen apart from Gobind, the Master of the world. Karan karaavan kartaa so-ee — the Creator is the doer, and the cause behind every cause.

This is the key to the whole shabad. Think of two players on the same team fighting over who scores. When they remember they wear the same jersey, the rivalry fades. In the same way, when you see the One in everyone, comparing and competing lose their grip.

A Question to Sit With

How might you treat people differently if you saw the same Oneness shining in each of them?
