Inner Work and Remembrance Give Unshakable Steadiness

ਮਨਹਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ॥
maneh kamaavai mukh har har bolai.
Those who work willingly, and chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ॥੨॥
so jan it ut kateh na dolai. ||2||
- they do not waver, here or hereafter. ||2||

In plain words

The one who does their inner work honestly, and keeps the Name on their lips, does not wobble. Not here, not anywhere.

Honest inner work plus remembrance gives a steadiness nothing can shake.
The deeper layer

Doing the inner work and saying the Name together make a person steady.

Maneh kamaavai mukh har har bolai — they work at it in the mind, and speak the Name aloud. So jan it ut kateh na dolai — such a person never wavers, here or hereafter.

Dolai means to wobble. It is the shaky feeling of a mind blown around by whatever happens. Picture a tree with deep roots in a storm. The branches sway, but the tree stays put.

Inner practice and outward remembering work as a pair. Together they give a steadiness that nothing outside can shake.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you stay steady when things around you are chaotic?
