Through the Name, an ordinary person comes to shine with real dignity. And it is the One who gives this gift, out of pure kindness -- it is not something you buy or win.
Real dignity comes as a free gift, not something you buy or win.
The Rahao. Naam vadaa-ee jan sobhaa paa-ay -- through the Name, the humble receive glory. Kar kirpaa jis aap divaa-ay -- the One bestows it in mercy. The pause line joins two threads: the Name dignifies the lowliest, and this dignity is grace, given freely. Wider Sikh ethical reading hears here a quiet caste-leveling note -- glory comes from the Name, not from birth or rank.
A Question to Sit With
Where does true dignity come from -- what you own and where you're from, or something deeper?
