The Teacher Carries You Across the Fire

ਚਰਨ ਕਵਲ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
charan kaval rid antar Dhaaray.
I have enshrined the Lotus Feet of the Lord within my heart.
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
agan saagar gur paar utaaray. ||2||
The Guru has carried me across the ocean of fire. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have kept the beautiful presence of the One deep in my heart -- and with it, the teacher has carried me across waters that once looked like they would burn me alive. What terrified me could not stop me.

The teacher can carry you across even what once looked like it would burn you.
The deeper layer

Charan kaval rid antar Dhaaray -- the lotus-feet enshrined within the heart. Agan saagar gur paar utaaray -- the teacher carries across the ocean of fire. Agan saagar (ocean of fire) is Gurbani's image for life's fiercest trials; the teacher ferries the soul across. We keep it as rescue and safe passage -- hopeful, never dwelling on the fire.

A Question to Sit With

What is a hard thing you got through that once looked impossible to survive?
