Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Fear falls away when I hold the Fearless One in mind. And in the company of the good, I sing about all that is good -- and the singing itself keeps the fear from returning.
Holding the Fearless One in mind, your own fear falls away.
The Rahao. Bhai binsay nirbha-o har Dhi-aa-i-aa -- fear ends, meditating on the Fearless One. Nirbhau (fearless) is a Mool Mantar quality of the One (see Shabad 1's opening). Saadhsang har kay gun gaa-i-aa -- in good company I sing praise. The pause line pairs remembrance of the Fearless One with shared song as the two things that dissolve fear.
A Question to Sit With
When you feel afraid, does it help to focus on something bigger and steadier than the fear?
