Coming and going ceases, and all comforts are obtained. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The teacher's word quiets the fights and worries inside you. The exhausting back-and-forth settles down, and a deep comfort arrives -- all the good things at once.

A wise word can quiet the fights and worries churning inside you.
The deeper layer

Kal kalays gur sabad nivaaray -- the teacher's sabad (Word) dispels strife and worry. Aavan jaan rahay sukh saaray -- coming-and-going ceases, all comforts come. Kal kalays is inner conflict and turmoil; aavan jaan (coming and going) we render as the exhausting back-and-forth that settles. The Word is presented as a quieting force.

A Question to Sit With

What words -- from a person or a song -- have quieted a storm inside you?
