Verse 3 of 5

An Ordinary Hour Turns Precious With the Name

ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਸਫਲ ਓਹ ਘਰੀ ॥
safal moorat safal oh gharee.
Blessed is that moment, and blessed is that time,
ਜਿਤੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਉਚਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੀ ॥੨॥
jit rasnaa uchrai har haree. ||2||
when my tongue chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Haree. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Blessed is that moment, blessed is that hour, when my tongue speaks the Name of the One out loud. A word like that makes the whole hour worth something.

An ordinary hour becomes precious the moment the Name is spoken in it.
The deeper layer

An ordinary hour becomes precious when the Name is spoken in it.

Safal moorat safal oh gharee — fruitful is the moment, fruitful is that hour. Safal means fruitful, worth something. Jit rasnaa uchrai har haree — the hour when the tongue speaks the Name.

The word safal comes twice. Saying it twice turns ordinary time into something sacred. It is not the clock that makes an hour valuable. It is what is spoken and remembered inside it. A plain Tuesday afternoon can hold the best moment of your week.

A Question to Sit With

What could turn an ordinary hour of your day into a good one?
