Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Listen -- really listen to this. When everything else is gone, only the good you did stays with you. And this chance, this life, will not come around again.

When all else is gone, only the good you did stays -- and this chance will not come again.
The deeper layer

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Its message: when everything else is gone, only the good you did stays with you.

Sun sun sikh hamaaree — listen, listen to my advice. Sukarit keetaa rahsee mayray jee-arhay — only the good you have done will stay, O my soul. Sukarit means good deeds. They are the one treasure that remains.

Bahurh na aavai vaaree — this turn will not come again. That urgency drives the whole shabad. A human life is a rare window, open for a short time. Think of a shooting star. You get to see it only if you look up now.

A Question to Sit With

If this chance will not come again, what good thing do you most want to do with it?
