Please grant Your Grace, God, and bestow this gift
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੬੬॥੧੩੫॥
naanak simrai naam niDhaan. ||4||66||135||
upon Nanak, that he may meditate on the treasure of the Naam. ||4||66||135||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Grant your grace, O One, and give this gift: that I may keep the treasure of the Name in mind — the endless riches held right there within.
Ask for the one treasure that is already within you, waiting to be remembered.
The closing line: kar kirpaa deejai prabh daan — grant grace, give this gift — naam nidhaan, the treasure of the Name. Nidhaan is a treasure-store, a hidden hoard. Nanak asks not for the world's riches but for access to the one treasure that is already within, waiting to be remembered.
A Question to Sit With
What good thing is already inside you that you would like to remember more often?
