Chanting and meditating on the Name of the True Guru, I live. ||1||

In plain words

I would give anything just to see my guide. Chanting and holding the guide's Name, I truly come alive.

Remembering what you love does not drain you — it is the thing that makes you feel alive.
The deeper layer

This one says remembering the Guru is what makes me feel alive.

Gur jee kay darsan ka-o bal jaa-o — I would give myself for one sight of the Guru. Darsan means seeing, a glimpse of someone you love. Then: jap jap jeevaa satgur naa-o — repeating the true Guru's Name again and again, I live. The word is doubled, jap jap, the way you hum a song you love over and over.

The key word is jeevaa, "I live." Remembering is not a chore that drains you. It is what fills you with life. Think of calling a grandparent you love. You hang up feeling more awake, not less.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that, when you do it, makes you feel truly alive?
