Offer All to What Holds Up Your Life

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
charan kamal hirdai ur Dhaaree.
I enshrine His Lotus Feet within my heart.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
man tan Dhan gur paraan aDhaaree. ||2||
I offer my mind, body and wealth to the Guru, the Support of the breath of life. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I hold the beautiful presence of the One close in my heart. My mind, my body, everything I have — I offer it all to the guide who holds up the very breath of my life.

Offering everything to what holds up your life is just recognizing where your life comes from.
The deeper layer

This one says to give everything to the One who keeps you breathing.

Charan kamal hirdai ur Dhaaree — I keep the lotus feet in my heart. "Lotus feet" is a loving way to speak of the One's presence, soft and beautiful like a lotus flower. Man tan Dhan gur paraan aDhaaree — mind, body and wealth, I offer to the Guru, the support of my paraan, my breath of life.

The offering is total, and it is joyful. It is not a loss. Think of a plant turning its leaves toward the sun. It is not giving anything up. It is turning toward where its life already comes from. Giving everything to what holds up your breath is simply seeing where your life comes from.

A Question to Sit With

What do you rely on so completely that you sometimes forget it is holding you up?
