In plain words

When I hold the One I love in my mind, the little mistakes I have carried grow quiet and fall away. In their place a deep calm settles in me — a steady, easy joy that feels like coming home.

Holding the One in mind quiets old mistakes and lets a deep, easy joy move in.
The deeper layer

Holding the One in mind quiets old mistakes and lets joy move in.

This is the opening of a short song by Guru Arjan, the fifth Guru. Simrat su-aamee kilvikh naasay — remembering the Master, mistakes are erased. Simrat is loving remembrance, keeping the One in your awareness. Kilvikh are wrongs and mistakes. They ease away, not through punishment, but simply in the light of that remembrance. Think of switching on a lamp. The shadows are not chased out. They just fade.

Sookh sahj aanand nivaasay — then one lives in peace, ease and joy. Sookh is peace. Aanand is joy, bliss. Sahj is the natural ease of a soul that has stopped fighting itself.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you can bring to mind that makes you feel steady and at home inside?
