Cut Off From the Thread, Choices Tangle

ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਐਸੀ ਹੈ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
saakat kee aisee hai reet.
Such is the lifestyle of the faithless cynics;
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
jo kichh karai sagal bipreet. ||2||
everything they do is evil. ||2||

In plain words

This is the way of someone who lives cut off from the One.

Whatever they do goes crosswise. It tangles and turns against them.

Cut off from the guiding thread, choices tangle — the cure is reconnecting, not condemning.
The deeper layer

This one says that when a person lives cut off from the One, their choices tend to go crosswise.

Saakat means someone "cut off" from the Source. It is the opposite of a gurmukh, a person whose face is turned toward the Guru. Jo kichh karai sagal bipreet — whatever they do comes out wrong, turned against itself.

Think of a kite whose string has snapped. It is not a bad kite. It just has nothing holding it, so it spins and tangles in the trees. That is the picture here. It is not a verdict that someone is a villain. It is the tangling that comes when the guiding thread is lost.

The fix the shabad points to is to connect again. This tradition trusts grace to make that possible.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel "off" and everything seems to go wrong, what helps you find your thread again?
