A Single True Glimpse Fulfills the Whole Day

ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
anik baar naanak balihaaraa.
So many times, Nanak is a sacrifice to Him;
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੭੯॥੧੪੮॥
safal darsan gobind hamaaraa. ||4||79||148||
fruitful is the Blessed Vision, the Darshan, of my Lord of the Universe. ||4||79||148||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Again and again my whole heart goes out in wonder to the One. To simply glimpse that presence — truly see it — brings everything to fruit and fills the day with meaning.

A single true glimpse of the One brings the whole day to fruit.
The deeper layer

This one ends the shabad in pure, grateful love.

anik baar naanak balihaaraa — countless times, Nanak gives himself to the One. Balihaaraa is the language of love overflowing, like saying, "I would give anything for you."

safal darsan gobind hamaaraa — fruitful is the sight of our Lord. Darsan means a true glimpse of the One. Gobind is a name for the One who cares for the whole world.

Think of seeing your family at the airport after a long trip. One look, and the whole day feels full.

The shabad began with people turning to the One for their own gain. It ends in joy that forgets itself completely.

A Question to Sit With

When has just seeing something beautiful filled you with wonder and made everything feel worthwhile?
