What Willpower Can't Untangle, Remembrance Loosens

ਅਨਿਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
anik banDhan toray nahee jaahi.
There are so many bonds, they cannot be broken.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਫਲ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
simrat naam mukat fal paahi. ||3||
Remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the fruit of liberation is obtained. ||3||

In plain words

Some knots feel far too many and too tight to ever untangle on our own. Yet simply keeping the Name in mind, the fruit of real freedom ripens all the same.

What willpower can't untangle, quiet remembrance can gently loosen into freedom.
The deeper layer

Some knots are too tight to untie by force. Remembering the One loosens them.

Anik bandhan toray nahee jaahi — so many bonds, and they cannot be broken. Bandhan means ties, the knots that hold us. Many teachers read this as an honest admission. Some inner knots will not give way to willpower at all. Think of a tangled necklace chain. The harder you pull, the tighter it gets.

The answer is not more force. Simrat naam mukat fal paahi — remembering the Naam, the Name, you receive the fruit of mukat, freedom. Gentle remembrance loosens what struggle could not untie.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a knot inside you that fighting it only tightens? What might loosen it instead?
