Where the One Dwells, Old Mistakes Lift Away

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੇ ॥
har kay charan riday meh basay.
With the Lord's Feet abiding in the heart,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਨਸੇ ॥੧॥
janam janam kay kilvikh nasay. ||1||
the sinful mistakes of countless incarnations are removed. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The nearness of the One is resting in my heart.

And so the small mistakes gathered over a long, long time are gently lifted away.

Where the One dwells in the heart, long-gathered mistakes gently lift away.
The deeper layer

This one says that where the One lives in the heart, old mistakes cannot stay.

Har kay charan riday meh basay — the One's feet live in the heart. That is a picture of the One being very near.

Janam janam kay kilvikh nasay — the mistakes of many lives run away. It points to a long pile-up of ego and errors being cleared. Nothing is cleared by punishment. It is cleared by presence.

Think of turning on the light in a dark room. You do not have to chase the dark out. It just cannot stay.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to finally let go of something you've carried a long time?
