Verse 3 of 5

Sing in Good Company and the Dreaded Road Vanishes

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
saaDhsang keertan fal paa-i-aa.
I have obtained the reward of the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਜਮ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
jam kaa maarag darisat na aa-i-aa. ||2||
I no longer have to gaze upon the way of death. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the company of good people, singing the praises of the One, I found the real reward.

And the frightening road I once dreaded was nowhere to be seen anymore.

Singing in good company, the road you once dreaded simply disappears from view.
The deeper layer

This one says that singing in good company makes the scary road disappear.

SaaDhsang keertan fal paa-i-aa — I found the fruit of keertan, singing the One's praise, in the saadh sangat, the company of good people.

Jam kaa maarag darisat na aa-i-aa — the road of death is no longer seen. What stands out is that the road that was feared simply vanishes from view.

Think of walking home in the dark alone, and then walking the same way with friends, singing. The path has not changed, but the fear is gone.

Good company and shared praise melt the fear away, rather than making you think about it.

A Question to Sit With

Has being with good people ever made a big fear quietly fade away?
