In plain words

So let me keep the Name of the One awake in my thoughts, consciously, warmly, on purpose.

Let me remember my Beloved, the Great One — who is the very best friend I could ever have.

The One you remember is not a distant power but your truest, closest Friend.
The deeper layer

After all the empty pictures, the shabad ends by naming what is full: the One, our closest Friend.

The shopper was missing real money to trade with. Here it is: raam naam, the living remembrance of the One's Name. Naanak raam naam jap cheet — Nanak says, keep the Name awake in your thoughts.

Then Guru Arjan gives the One a tender name: har saa meet, the One, such a Friend. The One is not a far-off judge here. The One is the truest companion, like the best friend who sits next to you on the first day at a new school. This is the real thing behind every show, the Friend behind everything that fades.

A Question to Sit With

What does it change for you to imagine the divine not as far away and stern, but as your best friend?
