True Devotion Is Being Woven Together With the One

ਪੂਤ ਪੇਖਿ ਜਿਉ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
poot paykh ji-o jeevat maataa.
As the mother is rejuvenated upon seeing her son,
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
ot pot jan har si-o raataa. ||2||
so is the Lord's humble servant imbued with Him, through and through. ||2||

In plain words

A mother's whole heart comes alive the moment she sees her child.

In the same way, a devoted heart is woven together with the One, thread through thread, all the way through.

True devotion isn't standing near the One — it's being woven together with it, thread through thread.
The deeper layer

A devoted heart is woven into the One, like threads in a cloth.

This is the second picture. Poot paykh ji-o jeevat maataa — a mother comes alive when she sees her child. Jeevat means coming alive, filled with fresh life.

Then a lovely phrase: ot pot. It means the threads that cross each other in woven cloth. Look at a sweater up close. The threads go over and under, over and under. You cannot pull them apart without ruining the sweater.

Ot pot jan har si-o raataa — that is how the devoted one is woven together with the One. They are not just fond of the One from far away. They are part of each other. This love is not clinging. It is belonging.

A Question to Sit With

What is a love in your life that feels woven into who you are, not just added on?
